Revised Chapter One: Working Copy
This is the first of eighteen chapters I've written so far.
I'll be posting more as I polish them. I've tried to make the chapters a little shorter for reluctant readers, so that they can have a feeling of accomplishment getting through the text, though I haven't always been successful. One of my chapters is literally subtitled 'A Very Long Chapter".
Although I've edited this a few times, it still needs work. It is still very rough and I need to revisit some of the diction and syntax in it, but that's the process. You write and revise, and revise, and revise again. Read it, hopefully enjoy it, and let me know what you think. Any feedback is appreciated.
Revised Chapter Two: Working Copy
So, as promised, here is the second working copy of chapter two.
This one is a little more polished than the original version. After some excellent suggestions from my writer's group, I dove back into it and tried to resolve some issues. There are some minor changes in diction and syntax, hopefully increasing the readability while maintaining the tone of the writing. I've compressed the aunt Marrion section and played with the sequencing of information as well. Lastly, I tried to make Arthur's introduction to the glasses more of an event, though I'm not certain I'm there yet. Please let me know what you think.
I'm still not settled on the final paragraph yet. I want it to have a feeling of Arthur being a bit deflated upon discovering things aren't well, as they seem. I don't want him fully convince that he isn't just a bit nuts though. Again, any feedback is appreciated.
Chapter Three: Working Copy
So, better late than never, here is the working copy of chapter three.
One of the challenges in this chapter is the building in which Arthur works is an actual building that still exists in Manhattan. It has been renovated and I haven't been able to get any interior shots from the 60's., so I'm not certain about the building materials used for the lobby area.
This chapter is very short, but I'm balancing it with two chapter fours... It will all make sense later (hopefully).
Again, any feedback is appreciated.
Both Chapter Fours: Working Copy
These are the last two chapters I will be including online, so as to avoid having my novel categorized as a published work. As you've notice, there are two chapter fours. I thought it was a little clever, but I could be wrong...
In these chapters, I've tried to lay the groundwork for the the rest of the novel. In chapter five, Arthur will cross the threshold from his ordinary world to one that is fantastically impossible and destined to change him forever.
Again, any feedback is appreciated.
